WHAT IS EDGE?
Edge (E) is considered 2.5G and has speeds up to 256 kbps down & 64 kbps up.
WHAT IS 3G?
3G can be any number of technologies but defined by ITU as any wireless network that provides speeds of at least 2 mbps down/768 kbps up.
WHAT IS 4G?
4G is similar to 3G with speeds of at least 50 mbps down/20 mbps up.
WHAT IS HSDPA?
HSDPA is one 3G technology, based on GSM/UMTS standards that gives speeds of up to 7.2 mbps down/1.4 mbps up. HSDPA plus makes this capable of 21 mbps down and plus/plus doubles that with MIMO technology.
WHAT IS A PAC CODE?
Port Authorisation Code. This is needed when transferring from one network to another. Issued by the current network provider and needs to be passed to the new provider in order to retain your mobile numbers. There is only one PAC per account not one per mobile number.
WHAT IS PORTING?
Porting is transferring your numbers from one network to another usually takes between 5 minutes and 4 hours. Turn the phone on and off a few times during the process to receive settings and speed up the porting.
WHAT IS A PIN NUMBER?
This is the security code you put on your phone when you do not want anyone else to access it.
WHAT IS A PUK CODE?
This is the code you need if you forget your pin in order to unlock your mobile. PUK code is obtainable either via us or your network provider within about 10 minutes.
HOW DO I ACCESS VOICE MAIL ABROAD?
You will need to set up a voice mail pin on your handset before leaving the UK otherwise your voice mail will not work.
HOW DO I USE DATA ABROAD?
Before leaving the UK please check with your provider that your number does not have a roaming bar or a data limit and discuss possible roaming bolt-ons that may reduce your costs.
IS MY PHONE DATA ENABLED?
Most phones are data enabled. If you don’t have a data bolt on it does not mean you can’t use data on your phone but you will incur heavy charges on you bill. You need a data bolt on even if you only occasionally browse.
WHAT IS UNLIMITED TEXT?
Unlimited text bundles are available at a reasonable cost but they are subject to a fair usage policy.
